Sell Your Solar

For owners of commercial solar installations

Your solar system could be worth more than you think.

Unlock the value of the solar system you already own.

Your commercial solar installation is a valuable business asset. Sell Your Solar helps eligible Australian businesses explore opportunities to release capital from existing solar infrastructure while continuing to benefit from solar electricity through a tailored agreement.

Free to enquire. No obligation. Focused on systems of around 100 kWp and above.

The opportunity

There is capital sitting on your roof.

A commercial solar system can represent a significant investment. Once it is installed, that capital usually stays locked in the asset for its working life. Selling an existing system is one way a business may be able to release it — and, through an onsite power purchase agreement, potentially keep using the electricity the panels produce.

Whether that makes sense for your business depends on the system, the site and the terms. That's what an assessment is for.

How it works

Four steps, at your pace.

The full process
  1. Tell us about your solar system

Share the basics: where it is, roughly how big it is and who owns it. Unsure about the technical details? That's fine.

  2. We assess the installation

We review the system and its commercial suitability, including ownership, condition, generation and any existing agreements.

  3. If eligible, we discuss a proposal

Where a system appears suitable, we discuss a potential acquisition proposal with you. You decide whether to continue.

  4. Explore ongoing supply

Where both parties agree, we explore an arrangement for your business to keep buying the electricity the system generates.

Why businesses explore solar buybacks

Same panels. Different balance sheet.

These are potential benefits, not guarantees. Whether they apply depends on your circumstances and the terms agreed.

  • Release capital

Turn a fixed asset into funds the business can use elsewhere.

  • Redeploy into core operations

Put capital to work in equipment, people, stock or debt reduction — your call.

  • Keep using the solar electricity

Under a suitable PPA, your site may continue to use power from the same system.

  • Get an independent view of the asset

An assessment gives you a clearer picture of what the installation is and how it performs.

  • Consider alternatives to ownership

Explore whether continuing to own and manage the system is still the right fit.

Questions

Common questions

All frequently asked questions
Can I sell a solar system that is already installed?

Potentially, yes. The service is designed for businesses that already own a commercial solar installation and want to understand whether the system could be sold as an asset.

Whether a sale is possible depends on who owns the system, its condition and performance, any finance or other agreements attached to it, and whether the site arrangements suit an ongoing supply agreement. An assessment is the first step in finding out.

Can I continue using the electricity?

That is the intention of the model. Where a buyback proceeds, the parties may enter into an onsite power purchase agreement (PPA) under which your business buys electricity generated by the system.

The price, term and conditions of any such agreement would be negotiated and documented. Nothing is agreed until both parties sign.

Will my electricity costs change?

They may. Solar electricity bought under a PPA would be priced under that agreement, while your remaining grid electricity, network charges, demand charges and other bill components would continue under your retail arrangements.

Any comparison should look at the whole electricity bill, not just the solar portion. We do not promise savings; any proposal would set out the proposed terms so you can assess them with your own advisers.

Is there any obligation to proceed?

No. Requesting an assessment does not commit you to anything. You can decide not to proceed at any stage before signing an agreement.
